What we do: Accommodation with support

Providing homes for people who would otherwise be homeless

If you are a young person who lives, works or is at college in Dartford and you need help to find somewhere to live, we may be able to help.

We offer accommodation to people who are homeless or who cannot afford to rent a place of their own.

If you would like to stay at Dartford YMCA, contact us on 01322 220521 or drop in to The Roundhouse, Overy Street, Dartford, DA1 1UP.

We have 42 self-contained bedsits in our hostel and 10 one-bedroom flats, all with professional staff to offer dedicated help and advice to developing your skills and self-confidence. The average stay before moving onto independent living is around 18 months.

Support, help and advice

We offer a range of projects to help the young people who stay with us to get jobs, learn new skills, and make positive choices about their lives.

Our professional staff offer help and support with the issues faced by our young residents, such as problems relating to family breakdown, alcohol, drugs and addiction.

Fun and social activities

Young people who stay at the YMCA enjoy a full programme of social activities such as rock climbing, archery and paintball. There is also the opportunity to attend National and International youth conferences.

Through these activities we aim to encourage the building of friendships and support for each other.

How is the hostel run?

Our hostel is a community of people and we encourage the young people to work together and respect each other, the YMCA staff and volunteers.

We have a Residents' Committee, a group of young people that meet regularly to help us plan and run the hostel, as well as two members of the committee sitting on the YMCA Board of Management.

We ask that our residents do not use or deal drugs or other illegal substances. We do not tolerate violence and threats to our staff and young people at our hostel, or any other antisocial behaviour.

Who pays for the accommodation?

If you earn less than £140 a week you can get housing benefit to help with your rent. We ask for rent to be paid on time.
